Proof of Death

Directorate of General Administration

Purpose: Citizens may obtain evidence of death of a particular person (usually a relative) in order to initiate inheritance proceedings.

Description: The applicant files a request for proof of death to the Civil Registry Office. The officer confirms this using the Death register and issues the applicant with evidence of death.

Information requested

  • Name (Name of Parent) and Surname of the deceased
  • Date and place of birth
  • Date, place, (time) of death
  • The place of residence/abode of the deceased
  • Name and surname of the successors
  • General information on successors (personal number, etc.)

Anticipated time within which must be answered for procedure (days): 1

Documents requested

  • Death Certificate (Copy)
  • Proof of monetary assets (cash, securities) (Copy)
  • Proof of immovable property (Copy)
